Pope Benedict XVI on the meaning of the Christmas tree

This week the Holy Father met with townspeople from the village of Pescopennataro, the south central Italian town that provided this year’s Christmas tree for St. Peter’s Square.  In his address, the Pope shared the meaning of the Christmas tree and its importance as a symbol of Jesus, the light of the world.

The Vatican Christmas tree will be lit today in St. Peter’s Square!

Interested to see what the tree looks like?  In the coming days, be sure to take a look at a webcam of St. Peter’s from the Vatican City State.
